Our Footprint

Duba Reserve is a community project, on land leased directly from five local communities, who in turn receive all the lease revenue. 80% Duba Plains staff hail from these villages and capacity-building is a significant benefit of the partnership.

Since Great Plains Conservation’s purchase of Duba Plains in May 2010, the initial groundwork has been laid to convert the camp into a much more sustainable operation. Following on the successes and lessons from Zarafa and Selinda, Duba Plains will adhere to similar standards with the implementaion of solar power, composting, above ground grey water management, bio-diesel use, and environmental mitigation (associated with driving in boggy substrate). The environmental conditions surrounding Duba are challenging, but in an effort of continual improvement, we are increasingly developing a lighter footprint.
